TACKLING THE ISSUE

a

So we asked ourselves…

How could we motivate senior citizens
to become active and stay healthy?

The goals and ideas of FitRick were centered around this question.

Sketches and ideas wouldn't be enough to empower FitRick. The team would have to take
a more research based approach to ensure that we could deliver a quality concept.

Developing the user experience

We needed to figure out how to deliver a pleasant experience tailored for seniors.

Developing healthy hobbies.

Coming up with goals, rewards, and the overall system for FitRick required extensive research into what activities older residents enjoyed doing, the frequency of said activities, and things that could bring immense satisfaction.

A familiar feeling.

Navigation for the FitRick kiosk was of great importance since the user group consists of mostly older residents. By ideating large, easy to read buttons and a rotating push dial, users would be likely to reminisce of a casino machine due to the physical resemblance.

After nailing down the fundamentals of our solution, the team realized that FitRick would
require some sort of program or contract to secure exposure and usage with our target user group.

DELIVERABLES
Superstars For Seniors

In order for FitRick kiosks and fitness trackers to get into as many hands as possible, Superstars For Seniors is a proposed program that aims to establish yearly contracts with senior centers, resulting in the delivery and installation of FitRicks.

With our concept nearly complete, it was time to add in our ideated feature
set into FitRick's kiosk UI. (For a better look at how FitRick would work,
the introduction can be found at the bottom of the page).

Here's how it works.

My involvement in this concept project is best shown through my contributions
shown below. (Contribution highlights can also be found at the top of the page.)

CONTRIBUTION CHAMPION

A clear vision and direction.

I led these areas throughout the creation of this concept project.

Documentation

The documentation of FitRick was polished both visually and in it's formatting.

Video Production

Despite some limitations, I was able to create a retro inspired
introduction video using the footage we captured, archived
public footage, and Final Cut Pro.

Lead designer

I created concept graphics of the FitRick kiosk and it's user interface, thought out the navigation system, and helped make critical decisions on setting the goals of this concept, capabilities, and rewards system.

Director

With the help of my team, I was able to direct and shoot the introduction video.
